So I normally don’t post much stuff like this to my page, but I truly believe that we have the power to make the change we want to see in this world. I want to see people stand up and take action for the things they believe in. Bullying based on one’s race, class, sex, gender, religion, sexual orientation, or beliefs is ALWAYS WRONG. Take a second to watch this video and sign the petition if it speaks to you. You have the power to help make a difference.
Finally kids are being heard. One of those kids in that video goes to my school. His name is Merik Castro and he is gay. He was bullied about this since 7th grade (he is a Freshman in High school this year). Not just verbal bullying but, he was assaulted and pushed into lockers. So, when he told school officials they would just have a disciplinary talk with the bullies and maybe an ISS (In School Suspension) but take no action toward these bullies.
That’s not the worst part.
He wrote a suicide note for a class assignment because he was bullied and when he got sent to the assistant principal’s office they just basically said “Don’t do it.”. They didn’t even supply him with Suicide prevention resources like they should have. On top of that, the Superintendent kicked him out of the school because “He was choosing this lifestyle”. The school suggested “home-schooling” for the last 6 weeks of school.
He took this to the media and the school defends themselves with “We take bullying very seriously”. Schools that intend on expelling the victim should not stand ground to educate children.
Merik has created a petition he is going to take to the district and he needs some help. He need 1,000 signatures by October 2nd. He is halfway there, and we need to help.
